In 2020 my good friend, Frank Rodriguez, asked me to make a contribution to a method book he was developing for his Villela guitars. One of those instruments was inspired by the charango, though, the strings are tuned like a standard guitar (albeit an octave higher). The other is a six-stringed contra guitar that is tuned an octave below the standard guitar. He wanted a new piece that would enable those instruments to intermingle with the standard guitar. Confluence was the result. Sadly, Frank’s method never came to be. But, I have revisited the piece and created two other settings for it including this one for three standard guitars.
