Joropo is built using the same traditional Venezuelan material that Lauro used in his solo guitar piece Seis por Derecho – imitating the Venezuelan harp being accompanied by cuatro and maracas. 6/8 and 3/4 time signatures are superimposed throughout and the harmony follows the tradition pattern of one measure tonic, one measure sub-dominant, two measures dominant. The preceding Canción is a homage to Lauro’s beguiling song-like slow music.
