Description

Circle of Riffs, written in early 2023, is a homage to the Greek composer Evangelos Odysseas Papathanassiou (29th March 1943-17th May 2022), known professionally as Vangelis.

In late 2022 / early 2023, I had been studying scores written by Vangelis as part of an arranging project, noting his resourceful and monothematic use of simple themes, all within Classical / Popular / Electronic Rock music idioms. Circle of Riffs is my homage resulting from these observations.

Circle of Riffs received its World Premiere performance on 1st September 2024 by the Cestrian Guitar Quartet (Ruth Fielding / Bev Henry / David Pugh / Stuart Allcock) at Newchurch Parish Hall, Culcheth, Warrington.
