Beaming blooms displayed in all their beauty, flowers fill our eyes with color, our fingertips with texture and our noses with delightful fragrance. The allure and joy flowers bring is celebrated in Fiesta de las Flores, a duet for harp and guitar by Rex Willis. As the colorful timbres of each instrument playfully interweave, the listener is reminded of flower bouquets swaying in the breeze for all to see.
The work was commissioned and written for Ann Hopson Pilot, former principal harpist for both the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops for over 40 years. It was premiered at the State College of Florida Neel Performing Arts Center in 2015. The composer is grateful to Ann Hopson Pilot for the wealth of knowledge gained, writing for harp, while engaged in detailed and delightful rehearsals.
