Antonio Vivaldi’s Concerto Op. 3, No. 10 (RV 580) comes from L’estro armonico, his celebrated set of twelve concertos for strings. Scored for four solo violins and string accompaniment, it is a wonderfully inventive masterpiece spanning through highly contrasting movements. Clearly, Johann Sebastian Bach was deeply impressed by the work, as he famously arranged it for four keyboards (BWV 1065), transposing it from Vivaldi's original B minor to A minor.
This guitar arrangement transposes the piece into D minor. As you would expect, the four soloists take the lion’s share of the melodic interest, but the accompanying parts should not be underestimated — there is plenty of engaging material for everyone.
While this guitar arrangement is scored for seven parts, it scales beautifully and will work just as effectively with larger ensembles. One thing is certain: you won't be disappointed by the sheer brilliance and energy of this concerto.
