Baritone Guitar
The guitar, whether it's electric, acoustic, or classical, is an instrument that's constantly evolving. In recent years, luthiers have become increasingly creative, experimenting with new techniques, new wood species combinations, and new bracing patterns inside the guitar. As a result, we're seeing more and more guitarists of all styles playing with 7- and 8-string guitars, harp guitars, and baritone guitars. We only have to think of Pat Metheny and his album "Moon Dial," which is entirely dedicated to the baryton guitar, or Mark Lettieri and his albums "The Baritone Sessions."
It's with this spirit of change and discovery that I had luthier François C. Paradis build me a classical baritone guitar. I tune it a perfect fourth lower than standard classical guitar tuning, which is: B-E-A-D-F#-B. This allows me to play exactly the same way as on a classical guitar, but the result is a lower, more intimate, and more subdued sound.
