Written for my former guitar teacher, and now friend of 37 years, Jonathan Richards, these four brief solos came to me from something he once said: «There is as much of a musical experience in a Schubert song or Dowland lute solo as there is is in a four hour opera».
This made me think about how much one can put into a short work.
These four works have titles that sugest life experiences that we can all relate to in our own way:
On the way
Cantabile
Memory
No Despair
Perhaps there is not as quite as much music in there as there is in the ‘four hour opera’ that Jonathan refers to, but I feel I have put something of my own life experience into each of them - and I hope that you as a listener or player find a reflection of your own life in here also.
