Description

Gato: The “gato” is an Argentine folk genre, a joyful and vibrant dance characteristic of the northwest and central regions of the country. It is danced in pairs and combines choreographic elements such as improvised foot tapping and turns, movements that highlight the festive and social nature of this dance. Its usual meter is a polyrhythm that combines 6/8 and 3/4, giving it a distinctive rhythmic dynamism. It is typically performed with guitar, percussion, and sometimes with violin.  It can be either vocal or instrumental.

Argentine folklore is a living and constantly evolving tradition, which can be observed in this piece through the incorporation of modulations or modern harmonies, while still preserving the formal structure and original character of the genre.
