Description

This piece, dedicated to Egberto Gismonti is full of Brazilian sounds and rhythms. It begins with a fast tricky run in semiquavers down the strings before launching into a bouncy main idea that is rather fleet of foot and requires careful handling. There are plenty of fast runs and chordal syncopations and a couple of hammer-ons that I had to look at a couple of times before attempting them. Things get a little trickier in the middle section with a few excursions into the higher positions that could catch you out, before a return to the opening section and an extended coda that manages to encapsulate some of the trickiest finger work. This is on the higher side of moderate but is always interesting, entertaining and not at all predictable. It is quite a work out for the fingers but in the right hands would be a very effective piece to programme in a concert.
