“Fantasy 1962: Salix kusanoi in Ueno Park” was commissioned by Taiwan Guitar Society as the set piece for Taiwan Guitar Competition 2025. This piece is a fantasy that weaves together elements from different times and spaces, using music to tell an imaginary story. The “Salix kusanoi” mentioned in the title refers to a willow species endemic to Taiwan, symbolizing the connection to the island’s natural heritage. The year “1962” commemorates the participation of Taiwanese guitarist Chao-Hsuan Lu (1929–2017) in the 21st International Guitarist Symposium held in Japan. At this prestigious event, Mr. Lu presented his widely acclaimed composition, “Willow”, which left an enduring legacy.
