Description

By sheer coincidence this volume arrived whilst was working, with a group of students on Eric Marchelie's beautiful Quatuor no 1. This composer's music is routed firmly on the guitar, he has the ability to take a simple idea and develop it using the natural resources of the instrument. Trois Égéennes is no exception and the three pieces contained within are beautifully composed, the musical ideas speak directly to the listener but then Marchelie brings his musicality to these ideas which results in some delightful moments and indeed surprises along the way. The three pieces have no individual titles (other than one, two and three!) but each is sufficiently individual and coherent to stand either alone or, preferably, as a complete work. This is highly enjoyable and well worth investigating.
