Description

This seems a slight departure from this popular Argentinian's usual musical style and is all the more refreshing for it. Pujol's works often bring to mind the style of his fellow compatriot Astor Piazzolla but apart from the fact that there is, as per usual, a slower, lyrical mid-section the rest of the piece is much more “original”. This slower part has a lovely, memorable tune with underneath which Pujol has kept the harmonization quite simple and most effective it is too. This is preceded (and followed) by an exciting rapid section with a 5/8 time signature where the melody is slightly syncopated, the five-in-a-bar giving the music a forward impetus. Of much more technical simplicity than the majority of this composer's other works, this gives the Grade 4 student a chance to sample the music of this well respected guitarist/composer.
