These two pieces by Mexican guitarist Xavier Camino exploit one of the guitar's most attractive characteristics: that of the campanella style, the allowing of one or more notes on different strings to ring through onto the following notes. Both works are not reliant upon strong melody lines, the most important principal being the lovely sounds produced by the flowing scales and arpeggios and chord passages with occasional interludes of varying tempi. Due to the very nature of this composition the length of the fingerboard is utilized to great effect and nimble fingers and a goodly stretch is required to do these pieces full justice. I would suggest a technique of grade 6-7 would suffice. The usual high-clarity presentation of the music which has become expected from these publishers is evident throughout. Steve Marsh
