Réminiscences

Subtitled 'homage a Maurice Ravel' Reminiscences is an atmospheric composition which initially relies heavily on the player's ability to keep a smooth ostinato-open-treble-string pattern flowing steadily in the background while bringing to the foreground the passages of single notes and chords played in various positions on the fingerboard. The starkness of the fifths chords gives a flavour of mediaeval times. After thes initial calmness, things hot up in the lengthy mid part with arpeggios including triplets and tremolo but still retaining the bleakness created previously. The work ends as it began with a return to the initial idea. This work is (.) ideal for anyone of around the grade 6 standard who is after a new modern piece. (Steve Marsh, Classical Guitar Magazine)
