In "To Aegir", Baxter melds together the worlds of the atonal and tonal. By combining aspects of 12 tone music with more traditional tonal languages, he creates a world that is sometimes lyrical and romantic, sometimes sharply angular and tense, but always driving forward, full of color and emotional expression. The music commands its own definition of what it considers consonant and dissonant. It is a successful example of how old and new musical languages and styles can co-exist within the framework of a single piece of music. -Kevin Shannon of the Atlantic Guitar Quartet
