Description

One of our most seasoned composer-performers, Lindsey-Clark's music has most recently been especially noticeable as part of the Guitar Exam Repertoire but he has done so much more besides.

This first pair of pieces demonstrates the gulf between his compositional skills and the myriad of others that I often see, for his writing is very clever and never obvious, unlike so many others' pieces. Take the first piece; Song of Dusk, an adagio, three-in-the-bar piece in (mostly) three voices. It would be so easy to lapse into banal ideas or chord progressions that you know are coming before they actually do, but not with this man's music. The molto espressivo theme lilts gently along and manages to surprise at every turn. Its companion Anglo Tango is a lot of fun, being a tongue-in-cheek tango with plenty of opportunity to ham it up along the way should the performer want to. This too is an entertaining little item and is not more than intermediate in its difficulty. So, essentially this is a nice duo of pieces; well written, for the moderate player and with plenty to keep such a player interested and occupied. Very entertaining too.
