John Williams was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1941 and he was taught the guitar by his father. During the late 1950’s John attended classes with Segovia in Siena, Italy and studied general music subjects at the Royal College of Music, London.
His long solo career began with debuts in London, Paris and Madrid. He later developed many collaborations with other musicians including: Rafael Puyana, Julian Bream, Peter Hurford, Tim Kain, Richard Harvey, John Etheridge, Maria Farandouri, both Francis and his son Patrick Bebey, Paco Pena, Cleo Laine and John Dankworth, the groups Inti-Illimani and Attacca, and he was a founder member of the group Sky. For many years his ensemble JW and Friends performed a wide variety of music. He recorded for CBS Masterworks/Sony Classical and started his own label JCW Recordings in 2008. John’s many honours and awards include the AO (Australia) and the Edison Lifetime Achievement Award (Holland).
When not busy with music he loves walking with his dogs and the occasional game of chess.
