Description

Ukrainian-born guitarist and composer Arina Burcéva holds master of music degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she studied counterpoint and improvisation with Dusan Bogdanovic and Sergio Assad. As a soloist and in collaboration with other artists, she has performed numerous recitals across the United States, Canada and Latin America. She has taught masterclasses on interpreting traditional guitar repertoire and held workshops dedicated to improvising and composing new music for guitar.

Arina was first introduced to composition at the age of 11. The early training in melodic writing has influenced her style today: she uses spontaneously created melodies as a core of her work, which she further elaborates on through the means of counterpoint and variation.

Strongly influenced by the Slavic, Balkan and Byzantine tradition, Arina also finds freedom in exploring elements of other musical languages, blending them into a personal style of her own. She has written works for solo guitar and ensemble.
