Description

Originally from Charlottetown, PEI, Richard Gibson obtained a doctorate in musical composition at the University of King’s College, London, having studied with eminent composers like Steve Tittle, Peter Paul Koprowski and David Lumsdaine. He has been the recipient of numerous awards including the SOCAN Young Composer of the Year prize for 1983, the Robert Fleming prize and the New Brunswick Lieutenant-Governor’s award for Excellence in the Arts. He has taught theory and musical composition at the Université de Moncton for more than twenty-five years. In addition to his compositional work and teaching duties, Richard Gibson continues to pursue other musical activities such as the production of recordings of classical music, arranging for and playing with jazz groups (bass) and offering workshops to secondary school teachers and high school ensembles.
