Description

Organist, improviser and composer, Rachel Laurin devotes herself exclusively to concert, composition, lectures, workshops and master-classes. She has composed more than sixty substantial works for solo instruments, various ensembles, choir, and orchestra. Her music is played and recorded in major cities of America, Europe, Asia and South Africa. She is “House Composer” for Wayne Leupold Editions (USA) since 2006. Her compositions are also published by Lucarel, RCCO Publications, Doberman (Canada), Hinshaw Music (USA) and Europart (France). Her music appears on several CDs and one complete recording is devoted to a part of her chamber music (“Festivals”, ATMA ACD 2 2295). As an organist, Rachel Laurin has been Associate Organist (with Titular Raymond Daveluy) at St. Joseph’s Oratory, Montreal, from 1986 to 2002, and Titular Organist at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Ottawa, from 2002 to 2006. She played recitals in Canada, USA, United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany and Italy among others, and has played as a soloist with the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra, the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, and the National Academy Orchestra in Hamilton, presenting the Premiere of Jacques Hétu’s organ concerto and Raymond Daveluy’s organ concerto. She recorded eleven CDs on various labels including Motette, Analekta, SRC/Radio-Canada, Musicus and Fidelio She now composes principally on commissions: the American Guild of Organists National Convention 2010, in Washington, D.C. commissioned the Fantasia, Op. 52, for Organ and Harp (Wayne Leupold Editions) which was Premiered in July 2010 at St. John’s Church, Lafayette Square. Many other works were Premiered in 2010: this Piano Concerto, Op. 46, (September 18) by the Trois-Rivières Symphony Orchestra under conductor Jacques Lacombe; her Organ Symphony No. 2, Op. 55, in Calgary (October 2); Three Bagatelles for Harmonium, Op. 54, in New York City. As a performer, she also Premiered the Raymond Daveluy’s Seventh Organ Sonata, in Montreal, September 2010. She is now composing an Organ Concerto with String Orchestra and Timpanis (Op. 59), to be performed at the AGO Region IV Convention in Greensboro, North Carolina, June 2011. Rachel Laurin has won many awards including the Holtkamp-AGO 2008 Composition Competition, the Marilyn Mason New Organ Music Competition 2009, the Alienor Composition Awards, and the Prix Conrad-Letendre.
