Description

"I've had the pleasure of reviewing quite a few of french-canadian guitarist Patrick Roux's compositions and, as I recollect, have always found his music very enjoyable, interesting and well written. Entre deux Rives carries on Roux's reputation well. It has the scordatura of sixth string to D and third to F# which makes for difficult reading in many parts of this composition but the determined player who can wade through this will be rewarded with an excellent and relatively substantial guitar solo in their repertoire. The main substance of this piece is of a rapid 'perpetual motion' style with the altered tuning enabling lush and captivating sounds to emerge from the plethora of notes. The two slower sections - one serving as an introduction - are little gems in their own right with their sad, reflective tunes and attractive harmonies. Roux is a clever and inventive composer well up there with the best of them and for the Advanced player this piece is certainly well worth considering for adding to their repertoire."
