Colin Edward Lang is an Irish-born guitarist who now resides in Bavaria where he teaches and composes. His name is unfamiliar to me but if his other compositions are as likeable as this one under review then I look forward to hearing more. Ilmenspitz is written in the form of a tremolo but Lang has cleverly interwoven a sustained single melody note here and there using a very brief interruption of the tremolo itself. I can't remember seeing this style of composition used so extensively before and it works very well indeed. The work is most attractive in a dramatic and sombre fashion with an underlying melancholyair. Ideal material for restaurants, hotels, brief encore, etc. this would be ideally suitable for the Grade 6+ player seeking a new contemporary tremolo piece.
