Description

Médiane begins the five-movement set of pieces (published individually) collectively called Pentagone. This atonal work is an appealing composition with an impressionistic and surreal childlike imagery being conjured up from the dialogue between the two guitars as they plod their way through to the final bar. Quite 'Bartoklan' in style in many parts, this imagery is further enhanced by 'bent' notes and clever use of dissonance. Mediane certainly whets the appetite to move onto the second movement. The presentation is excellent with separate parts for each of the players. The music (which is completely unfingered) would be suitable for duos of around the grade 7 standard looking for something 'modern-but-not-too-way-out' to fill their repertoires with.
