Description

An opening comprising guitars coming in one after the other, each playing a different open string note didn't make me sit up and take much notice. But events soon changed that. The piece picks up energy and volume as minims become crotchets and crotchets become quavers (eighth notes). Empty-sounding four note chords grow to six and seven notes as individual guitars play two notes at once. These are brash chords, setting the style as modern not classical. And yet the piece will appeal to players from Grade three upwards, as the writing is classical in appearance and rhythm, and therefore easy to assimilate. Indeed, a delightful and playful second section introduces a little them that pops back inverted and is harmonized with gently falling and lush chords.
