Description

The Italian guitarist/ composer Simone lannarelli began his playing days with rock and Brazilian guitar styles then turned to classical guitar and has taken part in masterclasses with Barrueco, Russell and Roland Dyens in Paris.
I have had the pleasure of reviewing two of this guitarist's compositions before and remember them both being highly enjoyable; this current piece is no exception. It is a virtuoso piece which will require a high technical (and musical) standard to pull off a convincing performance. Throughout the 17 pages of music there are plentiful changes of mood, rhythm and metre, made up of lengthy unbarred semi-improvisational sections, rapid arpeggios, Baroque-pastiche passages, chordal sections, and a stunningly beautiful «Pastorale« interlude coming mid-way through the work. This is a concert piece which I for one will look forward to seeing on programmes but it is not for the feint-hearted.
The fingering is sparse throughout the score but anyone taking on this piece should certainly be more than capable of coming up with the best way of performing this piece for themselves.
