Description

Astoundingly, this is Kleynjans opus 232 and he should be applauded for the contribution he has made to the classical guitar repertoire, whether it be for the works he has written intended for the concert platform or just the student «catalogue«. Admittedly there are times, when playing through this composer's pieces, that a distinct feeling of déjà vu creeps in, but he has his own style of writing and after 232 works this is almost bound to happen.
Valse - La Coquette is a delightfully lyrical miniature, probably best suited either as an encore item or as a one-off piece in the odd informal concert. Stylistically, one is reminded of the celebrated waltzes by the Venezuelan composer Antonio Lauro (but without the «hemiola« effect) and one finds the main tune of this piece remains in the mind long after a play through. This piece would ideally only be suitable for the grade 6 and above player. The presentation is excellent with good fingering by the composer throughout.
