Description

The Italian guitarist/composer Simone Iannarelli, born 1970, started his musical life playing rock and Brazilian guitar styles then turned to classical guitar and has since taken part in masterclasses with Barrueco and Russell and studied with Roland Dyens in Paris. Previous works I have come across by him have all left very favourable impressions upon me and this one under review is no exception.
Sub-titled «Homage to the City of Taxco«, Argentum is a work for the upper grade player only. It is in one continuous movement but with several sectionalised parts and the «whole« producing a lovely wistful, very lyrical and most attractive composition. One of the delightful little characteristics is the small musical motif (in the form of a turn) which is echoed throughout many parts of this work.
Altogether a most satisfying new composition and a welcome addition to the solo guitar repertoire.
