Description

Set in a dropped D tuning this one-movement work begins on a pedal D bass underpinning some friendly 6ths above. This soon develops with some running passages, which look more difficult than they actually are, and which drive the momentum forward. A brief slower section intervenes which never strays away from the basic D minor harmonies, even for a second, until a new idea in D major based around the previous minor main theme, holds momentary sway. Then a less rhythmic idea enters that calms things down briefly until the opening 6ths idea returns and things reach a brief climax with a friendly close on a D major 7th chord.
Pleasant, this light little diversion reminded me a bit of a Andrew York-meets-Gordon Giltrap sort of style. It is not too difficult to play and I am sure it will delight any players wanting their music tuneful and not too mentally demanding.
