La Valse des Petits Vieux (dedicated to René Bartoli) could easily have slipped into the «syrupy catalogue« but Kleynjans has saved this fate by the use of some lovely harmony and melodic twists. As miniatures go - the piece is just 39 bars in length - this is a little gem. The very brief key change midway through, some interesting use of chords played in harmonics, a little percussion here and there and one of those déjà vu tunes in which you feel an acquaintance with ... all these contribute in making this composition one of the composer's best small works; could be a very effective final encore item. The technical standard is of around the Intermediate grade.
