Description

Danserie no.1, composed in 1977 and written for the Athenian Guitar Duo, shares parallel ideas and figurations seen in other works of this time. The central Galliard doffs its cap to the Renaissance masters, with the use of long improvisatory semiquaver runs, reminiscent of the sort of divisions one hears played by the lute in a ‘consort’ ensemble. The spirited finale reminds us of the composer’s broad knowledge of the guitar's percussive and dynamic range attributes, bringing this delightful duet to a satisfactory conclusion.
