Now and Ever was written for David Russell and is dedicated to David and his wife Maria. I will always be grateful to David for asking me to compose this work for him. David’s recording of the work can be found in his 2009 CD For David on the Telarc Label. My recording of the work can be found on my 2020 CD, Scenes From Ellis Island on New Focus Records. I recommend anyone who wants to perform this work to listen to these recordings and feel free to alter passages that are different from this printed score.
Now and Ever is my musical statement about the horrors of slavery. The final section is a kind of musical prayer asking for the end of any type of slavery anywhere on this or any other planet.
