Aphorisms is a set of very short pieces for two guitars, most of which only last a few seconds. Each of the 15 pieces is based on a familiar aphorism.
The performers can choose to play as many or as few of them as they like, and they can be performed in any order. However, Eat, drink, and be merry makes a good finale. In concert, the pieces could be spread across a whole programme in groups of twos or threes, either between pieces or between movements within a piece. One of the performers should announce the title before each aphorism is played.
Look before you leap
Less Is more
Imitation Is the sincerest form of flattery
Still waters run deep
It takes two to tango
A stitch in time saves nine
Don’t let the bastards grind you down
All work and no play, makes jack a dull boy
Silence is golden
Necessity is the motherof invention
All we have to dDecide Is what to Do...
Practice makes perfect
A person with one clock knows what time It Is...
Revenge is a dish best served cold
Eat, drink, and be merry
