Denis Dion is a multimedia artist and communicator. He describes himself as passionate about music and technology applied to musical creation. To date, he has had the privilege of working with highly talented musicians and has composed music for concerts, cinema, television, visual installations and multimedia projections. His work has been rewarded three times by the Conseil Québécois, receiving the Opus Creation of the Year in 2001-2002 and 2003-2004, as well as Composer of the Year in 2003-2004. Alongside his activities as a composer, he was associated with the Trois-Rivières Symphony Orchestra as composer in residence from 2002 to 2004. At the turn of the year 2000, he was a teacher at the Faculty of Music of Laval University and at the Conservatoire de musique de Québec. On the airwaves of the Music Service of the Cultural Channel of Radio-Canada, he could be heard as a commentator or specialist for several years.
During his career, he has won several distinctions, including the College Students' Prize in Contemporary Music, First Prize at the CMC-Québec Quebec Music Competition, and the 2012 Regional Artistic Creation Prize awarded by the Quebec Council for Arts and Letters. On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the founding of Quebec City, the Quebec Symphony Orchestra presented the premiere of the multimedia tale The Clan of Birds, commissioned by the Society for the Celebrations of the 400th Anniversary of Quebec City.
For several years now, the composer has been present on streaming platforms (Apple Music, Spotify, Bandcamp, etc.) by posting digital projects in album format or individual productions. As of this date, the cumulative total is approximately 15,000 listens per month. He is also active on his YouTube channel and offers various video capsules dealing mainly with computer-assisted music, presenting the main digital tools as well as some musical projects. As of this date, approximately 6,000 people are watching his channel monthly. Denis Dion is a member of the Canadian Music Centre and his music is published by Dobermann-Yppan, CMC, and Canadian National Conservatory of Music, Musical Discoveries in the “Northern Lights” series.
