With this sixth volume, Denis Mortagne brings to a close his series of «8« albums, where each one contains eight student pieces and steps up, technically, from the lower grades through to this concluding book of material suitable for the more advanced player.
This final collection features a couple of flamenco styled works, a jazzy waltz, a sentimental ballad, a blues, a spiritual, a jokey waltz and a little fugue in swing style.
After dropping a couple of mild clangers in the previous volume, Mortagne is back on form again here with a one hundred-per-cent successful group of eight very entertaining, well-written and thoroughly enjoyable compositions. Anyone having gone through, and enjoyed, the others in this series will no doubt have a good time with the pieces contained in this album.
