Description

This little work by Torrisi, a composer whose work I have been coming across lately, is in 3/4 time and in E minor. A lesser composer's work in this key and time Signature could be so predictable that you might be shuddering to imagine how lacking in originality it could be. Not so here. One finds oneself almost immediately on frets 11 and 12 on the third string playing figurations that you really hadn't expected, and- that situation continues for much of the piece. As the title states it is a sad, bereft little mazurka that manages to stay original in its concept for the duration. It has a haunting melody that stays with you and some pleasing harmonies. It is not as easy as you might have expected from the title but it is not because of any finger-fireworks but rather due to the unpredictability of much of the writing. A nice piece that you may well enjoy.
