Description

This is a charming collection of little-known material dating from the nineteenth century through to the late sixteenth century works of one E. Adrianssen. Neither sources nor editorial policy are discussed, although the fact that each item is described as being arrangad by Jacques Chandonnet is undoubtedly significant. The degree of intervention presumably reduces with the onset of polyphony, although it is obvious that harmonies have been added to the earlier pieces. For the most part, this liberal approach works very well indeed, especially in the elaborate and evocative realisation of the fourteenth century Lamento di Tristan.
An unusual and highly rewarding publication whose technical demands rarely exceed Grade 5.
(Paul Fowles, Classical Guitar)
