Initially commissioned for the recording On Common Ground, Bill Evans Remembered is inspired by the works of this great jazz pianist and composer. I have taken Evans’s beautiful improvisation, Peace Piece, as a springboard for an alternative line of compositional development which brings forth my own musical style and affinity. As the piece proceeds, fragments of other standards by Evans also become integrated into the texture; as if in a dream, Time Remembered and Letter to Evan show up and disappear. It’s important to mention that I have given an important place in this composition to Evans’s affinity and interest in early music. This affinity is echoed in his Time Remembered, which, in turn, echoes in my title of the piece.
