Description

Erik Marchelie is quite a prolific composer and having reviewed at least twenty of his publications over the last few years I have become a great fan of his music which is usually of a highly melodic and harmonically pleasing nature. The Spanish-flavoured Linares is no exception and with its beguiling Habanera rhythm and lovely imaginative and plaintive melody line it grips the attention from the start. From this simple beginning the piece builds up in sections which include three brief interludes marked vivo which completely change the mood in exciting fashion with a final flamenco-style conclusion in the last fast section before the work ends as it began, in a calm manner. Both instruments get their fair share of the melody line so from both players viewpoints the work holds interest. The technical requirement is of around the Intermediate standard and the publication comes with a separate part for the guitar.
