As per usual with music from this composer, he illustrates exactly what he expects the performer to do with his composition with an expectancy that these fine details are adhered to; in this case this includes dampening any notes exactly where indicated, slurring over two strings, eliminating string squeaks, rocking the guitar to obtain an undulation in the sound produced and of course all the dynamic instructions. The piece itself is of a delicate nature with an ethereal quality (due a lot of the time to artificial harmonics mingled with normal notes) and is of a contemporary nature with suggestions of a jazz influence. Although not one of Dyens' best works, The Wiz' is however a very pleasant and interesting piece to play as well as to listen to. This work would be suitable for the Grade 6 player.
