Description

This is a massive and fascinating venture. Subtle differences between the volumes show a continuous attention to detail. Programme notes explain that most of the chorales have been left in their original keys, so that the complete collection becomes a valuable resource for key-work and position-work, as well as an, almost endless supply of warm-ups, sight-reading and performance pieces. Virtually everything is a single sheet of full score, and those that are not are laid out with blank pages if necessary, to avoid all page-turns, though a minimum of two books would be needed for four players, since there are no part scores. By following the SATB originals to large extent, the top part always needs a competent high position reader, and the lowest part is sometimes tuned down to D.(.) the set has much going for it as a useful addition to a teacher's music collection for junior players.
