Description

Hearing the music of João Teixeira Guimaräes (a.k.a. Pernambuco) was the original inspiration for the Canadian composer William Beauvais to compose these eight guitar solos in the ever-popular style of the Brazilian Chôro.
All eight works are cleverly crafted pieces illustrating that the composer has an intimate working knowledge of the guitar fingerboard and also showing that he has a highly developed sense of melodic invention which is put to good use using these wonderfully exciting and absorbing rhythms. The music is not academic or difficult on the ear but equally it is not drab, Beauvais managing to write new and original material in this oft-used style, but making it his own «sound« and merging traditional qualities into a contemporary idiom at the same time.
These are highly enjoyable new pieces and would ideally suit the grade 6-7 guitarist seeking new material of a Brazilian flavour.
