This concerto was made not only for virtuoso players.
Students will be happy to know that there is a chance to play with an orchestra in which the challenge is not in technical performence but of feeling and interpretation. In fact the score, in the conductor's eyes could be very flat, for him and the orchestra, maybe at the first sight but the ensemble it's what counts.
It seems that the orchestra barely accompanied the guitar but is not so. And anyway, after all, the guitar is the solist.
I strongly recomended an electro-acoustic guitar if possible.
I can sum up the character of this music in three words: happiness, exaltation and meditation. The title is there to strenghten it:
Levante in spanish it means: something that wakes you up, or cheers you up
