Description

Here is yet another from d'OZ's 2011 25th anniversary album and this time we have a highly rhythmic short piece from French guitarist Denis Mortagne. As the title suggests, Perpetuumn Mobile is a constantly on-going and forward-moving piece which begins in simple style with just a single melody line, the main interest here (and throughout) being the quirky, syncopated rhythm. As the work unfolds over the next 25 bars this rhythmic pattern is repeated with more harmonisation added and the final eight bars suddenly transform into a “bluesy” style (complete with string slapping) which could easily be something from early Clapton et al. An enjoyable “fun” student piece of around Grade 4-5 standard and one which should go a long way in helping anyone with problems counting through tricky rhythms.
