The “Baião” is one of the most popular and representative rhythms from the Northeastern region of Brazil. With several derivative sub-genres, the “Baião” is part of the music played by the “Forró Trios,” formed by an accordion, a triangule and a “zabumba” (percussion). “Guri” is an informal way of saying “kid” or “boy,” employed by inhabitants of the South.
These are references that embrace the vast Brazilian territory as an unifying element. My intention was to mix the traditional rhythmic characteristics of the “Baião” with more lyrical and polyphonic textures.
Also, paying a tribute to the wonderful “Projeto Guri,” responsible for nurturing so many talents in Brazilian communities.
