Michel Dalle Ave is a French guitarist and composer born in Agen in 1958. His musical journey began in 1973, at the age of 15, when he discovered the guitar as a self-taught musician, fascinated by the expressive freedom of folk music. He quickly developed a personal style, nourished by multiple influences—jazz, blues, classical, contemporary music, South American, and Celtic traditions—which shaped a sensitive writing that is both accessible and sophisticated.
Based in the southwest of France, he has built a unique career encompassing live performances, creation, and recordings. He began performing concerts in the 2000s, both solo and in various formations—guitar-drum duos, accompanying singers, and guitar ensembles. He is regularly invited to international festivals and workshops, and his works are now part of the repertoire of many performers.
His music, characterized by the clarity of its melodic line and a particular attention to harmony and natural rhythm, has been published since 2009 by Les Productions d’Oz in Quebec. This publishing partnership has led to a collection of over fifty original works for guitar—a body of work recognized for its stylistic diversity and musicality, now played in many countries. Each year, several of his compositions are also required pieces in international competitions, attesting to their pedagogical and artistic quality. In 2024, this prolific output is celebrated by the release of Anthologie Volume 1, which synthesizes the main lines of his writing.
His albums are conceived as a sonic showcase of his published work. Chez moi (2022), Mariesland (2024), Mes Ballades (2025), and Lakes Road (scheduled for 2026), produced by Doberman Musique and distributed by Universal Music Canada, allow listeners to hear his compositions in their performed versions. These albums convey his intimate world, blending lyrical ballads, poetic miniatures, fingerstyle pieces, and more narrative forms. All the tracks he records are published in Canada by Les Productions d’Oz, the world leader in guitar sheet music publishing.
Many professional artists perform his works today, including Édith Pageaud, Éric Franceries, David Jacques, Alexandre Bernoud, François Sciortino, Christian Laborde (Martin Guitar), and many others. Their interpretations can be seen on Michel Dalle Ave's official YouTube channel: YouTube page.
